1/3 seats reserved for women in CCP polls

Panaji: One-third of the seats are reserved for women in the upcoming Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) election, scheduled to be held in March.The Goa State Election Commission on Tuesday notified the reservation of wards for the CCP election, including 14 wards reserved for the general category.The remaining wards are reserved for OBCs, women in the general category, and the ST category.TOI had earlier reported that the commission will announce the reservation details shortly.The commission is also contemplating holding elections for all 11 municipal councils together in May, as the term of some municipal councils ends in April and rest in May this yearElections for six urban local bodies—Bicholim, Pernem, Valpoi, Cuncolim, Curchorem-Cacora and Canacona—were held in March 2021, while those for Mapusa, Margao, Quepem, Sanguem and Mormugao were held in April 2021.Elections for the 11 urban bodies are likely to be held on the new electoral roll published by the Election Commission of India after the special intensive revision (SIR) is completed and notified.
