Goa gears up for Goencho Carnival
Celebrating Carnival in Goa

February isn’t just the season of love in Goa; it’s also time for celebration as the Goencho Carnival returns from February 13 to 17. Goa is all set to burst into life with bright, vibrant colours, festive banners, music-filled streets, and an atmosphere of pure excitement. The carnival will feature a variety of parade floats showcasing Goan traditions, culture, art, and festive spirit. For the past 28 years, Raul Pereira from Quepem has been an active participant in the carnival floats. His journey began in 1998 when he won first place for participating in a parade in Panjim. “When I started off, it was about gathering friends and neighbours to participate in the float parade. We became the toddy tappers, the same idea we presented at the Panjim Carnival parade, and it won first place. Ever since, I’ve taken a special interest in showcasing Goan tradition,” he says. This year’s theme aligns with the Department of Tourism’s vision, emphasising responsible celebration, cleanliness, safety, and community participation. The much-awaited King Momo has been elected for the parade. Cedric da Costa, the newly- crowned King Momo, shared, “This is my first time being King Momo, and I’m very excited. The king’s ceremonial attire is underway, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this celebration.” Goencho Carnival Parade Schedule & Routes 13 February (Friday) – Porvorim The parade will begin from IHM and proceed to ACDIL School 14 February (Saturday) – Panjim The parade route will start from New Patto Bridge and end at Campal Ground 15 February (Sunday) – Margao The parade will proceed from Holy Spirit Church to the Margao Municipal Council Square 16 February (Monday) – Vasco The parade will move from St. Andrew’s Junction (Swatantra Path) to Joshi Chowk / Railway Station 17 February (Tuesday) – Morjim The parade route will be from Morjim Khind to Morjim Junction, near Raj Super Market 17 February (Tuesday) – Mapusa In Mapusa, the parade will proceed from the Comunidade building behind Milagres Church to the festival venue at the Comunidade Ground near Dev Bodgeshwar Temple
