Goa cracks down on illegal homes under Majhe Ghar

Panaji: The revenue department issued strict directives to all departments and comunidades to ensure that new encroachments on public land and Comunidade land do not occur, while simultaneously safeguarding eligible homes under the Majhe Ghar scheme.A circular mandated constant vigilance against new encroachments on govt and comunidade land, with warnings to officials for any lapses. The revenue department directive, dated Jan 2, mandated flying squads in every taluka and held officials accountable for lapses. The circular reaffirmed zero tolerance for post-2014 unauthorised structures.“Any failure on the part of an officer or official… shall be viewed seriously,” the circular stated, emphasising that officials holding the posts will be held accountable during their tenure. The circular, issued by under secretary Vrushika Kauthankar, stated that officials such as mamlatdars, panchayat secretaries, and police inspectors face disciplinary action for failing to prevent illegal constructions. The district collectors were directed to ensure that flying squads include BDOs, talathis, TCP, GCZMA, and police representatives, and are operational on weekends. The Majhe Ghar scheme protects structures that are pre-Feb 28, 2014, and the revenue department wants to ensure that new encroachments or unauthorised structures do not come up.Dedicated WhatsApp helplines will enable public complaints for immediate intervention.
