Gurgaon: As the revamp of Gurgaon Railway Station moves ahead, GMDA carried out a major anti-encroachment drive along Old Railway Road, clearing the congested approach road to the station.Earlier, railway officials flagged persistent encroachments along Railway Station Road as a major hurdle in the station’s ongoing renovation work. During the drive, extended sheds of around 100 shops were dismantled, while illegally placed street vendors stationed in front of commercial establishments were removed. Out of the 500 m stretch identified, 200 m were cleared.
This was part of a 2-day drive by GMDA to improve urban infrastructure and ensure unhindered access to major public facilities.
Shopkeepers were strictly directed to ensure that no carts or encroachments were placed on this stretch in the future. The enforcement team also focused on the Sabzi Mandi area, where vendors were instructed to keep their goods strictly within the designated market premises and not spill over onto the main road. Officials warned that any fresh encroachment would invite action.“We are committed to maintaining public spaces and supporting the redevelopment of Gurgaon Railway Station into a modern and iconic transit hub. We will ensure that the entire approach road to the station remains free of encroachment,” said RS Batth, District Town Planner (DTP), GMDA.Meanwhile, the traffic police also stepped up enforcement in the area, issuing 115 challans for traffic violations on Old Railway Road during the drive. Officials said monitoring will be ensured to prevent encroachments from resurfacing.
