Kanpur: A businessman has been arrested for allegedly drugging and raping a 16-year-old girl after luring her with a job offer in the Kidwainagar area of the city. The accused was presented in a court on Sunday and sent to jail to judicial custody. Acting on the survivor’s complaint, police had registered a case under the relevant sections of the Pocso Act. According to reports, the accused businessman, 45, allegedly took the girl to a Kidwainagar hotel to introduce her to someone, drugged her, and sexually assaulted her. Police station in-charge Dharmendra Kumar Ram said, “We arrested the accused businessman, who deals in threads, from his house located in Kidwainagar. The survivor has undergone a medical examination.” The survivor from Kannauj is the eldest of four siblings. Her father is a farmer. She had come to Kanpur looking for work. During this time, she met the businessman on Friday. She asked for a job, explaining her family’s financial situation. He reportedly took her to a hotel in Kidwainagar, saying that the person she needed to meet would be there. Once in the room, he allegedly spiked her coffee. While she was unconscious, the businessman allegedly raped her.
