Chandigarh: Punjab govt’s first operation under its anti-crime drive ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ resulted in 1,186 people rounded up on the second day, taking the total number of such detentions to 2,500 in just two days.‘Operation Prahaar’ has been launched as part of ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ and those detained include associates and abetters of foreign-based gangsters.

Punjab special DGP (law and order) Arpit Shukla said 1,314 individuals were rounded up on Day 1 of the operation, where more than 2,000 police teams comprising around 12,000 personnel were deployed across the state to carry out raids at identified and mapped locations linked to foreign-based gangsters.The special DGP stated, “Thorough investigations are ongoing from various aspects, including financial networks, logistics, weapon supply chains and communication links, to completely dismantle the support system backing organised crime.”
