NOIDA: Residents raised alarm over the deteriorating condition of the Ganga water pipeline outside the Sector 71 CNG pump, which they said has been leaking for the past several days. Commuters and residents alike expressed frustration over the inaction of the Authority’s water department.“The water pipeline has been regularly damaged for over 15 months here, and it damaged the road as well. The damaged road not only posed an accident risk but also posed a risk of water contamination. Unfortunately, the Authority learnt no lesson even after the Indore and the Sector 150 incident,” said Avnish Kumar from Sector 77.Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Amit Gupta, a resident of Sector 77, said, “The road is broken, and dirt is entering the pipeline. With the recent tragedy in Indore, where contaminated water led to fatalities, one would expect that the officials should prioritise our safety. However, despite assurances from the Authority’s water department, the reality remains troubling,” said Gupta.Gupta said that he has complained of the issue for the past 15 months.“Although there was some movement after calls from the MLA’s office last year, the progress stalled again. All tenders for repairs were put on hold, leaving a precarious situation,” he said, adding, “It seems only when someone falls ill, or an accident occurs, that some action is taken. Until then, we continue to wait and suffer the consequences.”As public frustration grew, residents and commuters called on the Noida Authority to expedite repairs and ensure that residents had access to safe drinking water. “We demand that our concerns be taken seriously before it’s too late,” said VK Gupta from Sector 74.A response from the Authority is awaited.
