Gallantry Award for Cyberabad police head constable shot while on duty

Hyderabad: Cyberabad police head constable Marri Venkat Reddy has been selected for the Gallantry Award. He sustained a bullet injury while nabbing a notorious thief, Bhatula Prabhakar, at Prism Pub in the Financial District last year.On the eve of Republic Day, the MHA announced medals to 24 officials from Telangana serving in various uniformed services. Of these, 15 are police officials. In Feb 2025, acting on a tip-off about Prabhakar’s arrival at Prism Pub, a team of policemen, including Venkat Reddy, laid a trap to nab him. After the accused was caught and being shifted, Prabhakar opened fire on Venkat Reddy. Despite sustaining a gunshot wound, Venkat Reddy, along with his team members, pinned him down and ensured his arrest.The President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PMS) will be awarded to additional superintendent of police (Intelligence Security Wing) MGS Prakash Rao and Counter Intelligence Cell sub-inspector of police Annu Damodar Reddy.The Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) will be awarded to 11 officials, including inspector general of police (SIB) B Sumathi, TG State Police (TGSP) commandant P Venkat Ramulu, TGSP additional commandant A Bhanu Murthy, CID (EOW) deputy superintendent of police M Shankar, TG cyber security bureau deputy superintendent of police KVM Prasad, deputy superintendent of police (Police Computer Services) C Vamsi Mohan Reddy, deputy superintendent of police (Police Training College) T Laxmi, Reserve TGSP Inspector V Purushotham Reddy, Vemulawada sub-inspector B Yellaiah, Counter-Intelligence Cell Sub-Inspector Syed Abdul Kareem, and Jagtial assistant sub-inspector B Anandam.In the MSM for Home Guards category, three Greyhounds personnel—B Renuka, M Ravi, and P Jangaiah—will receive awards. From the fire services department, three leading fire fighters—Singh Ghaveri Rajender, Hanumantha Rao Gouti, and K Ravindar—were selected. Two officials from the prison department —deputy Jailor M Sudhakar Reddy and assistant deputy jailor K Ashok Kumar— were also selected.
