Friend uses Bengaluru auto driver’s account for cybercrime

Bengaluru: A 23-year-old autorickshaw driver accused his friend of misusing his bank account for cyberfraud transactions and forcing him to get a second account opened in another friend’s name.The accused is Najeem, according to the complaint filed by Sheikh Pardeen Ahmed from KG Halli.

A month ago, while Ahmed was at an auto stand in KG Halli, Najeem asked him if he had a bank account. On learning that Ahmed didn’t have one, Najeem offered to help him open an account.Ahmed said Najeem gave him Rs 2,000, a mobile phone number and an email ID, and took him to a private bank in Banaswadi. Najeem waited outside the bank and asked Ahmed to open the account using his Aadhaar and PAN cards, and mobile number and email ID provided by Najeem. The bank issued a passbook, cheque book and debit card on the same day to Ahmed.Soon after Ahmed walked out of the bank, Najeem allegedly collected the passbook, cheque book and debit card. He told Ahmed that money would be transferred to the account and he would be paid a commission each time he withdrew cash and handed it over to Najeem.Najeem later persuaded Ahmed to get another account opened in the name of his friend, Shahid, and promised commission for that account as well.Recently, Ahmed came to know that his accounts had been used for cybercrime transactions and he approached East Cyber Crime police seeking action against Najeem. Man loses Rs 64k after trying to book escort services onlineBengaluru: A 26-year-old man lost over Rs 64,000 to fraudsters after trying to book escort services online.According to a complaint filed by private firm employee Akash (name changed), a woman identifying herself as Ananya Reddy contacted him on Telegram and offered him services. After exchanging messages and details about each other, they discussed the cost. On the pretext of collecting service and security charges, Ananya convinced him to pay Rs 64,500 in multiple transactions through a digital payment application.When she continued to demand more money, Akash suspected something amiss, cancelled the booking and demanded a refund. But Ananya had gone incommunicado by then.
