Roscommon LFGA have announced “with a mixture of gratitude and sadness” that four key figures of their executive committee have resigned from their roles.

Chairperson Declan Walsh, vice-chairperson Pat Heneghan, secretary Norman Lenihan and children’s officer Michelle Hughes Walsh will all depart the executive “after careful consideration and mutual agreement” on March 29.

The news will come as a major blow to Roscommon ladies’ football, and comes just a few years after the shambolic 2023 saga that saw former manager Ollie Lennon told his services were no longer required before being issued with an apology and reinstated as manager eight weeks later.

“It is with a mixture of gratitude and sadness that we announce the resignation of several key members from our leadership, at Roscommon LGFA,” a statement on the Roscommon LGFA Facebook page said.

“It has been confirmed that Roscommon executive members have accepted the resignations of our chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, and children’s officer. This decision comes after careful consideration and mutual agreement.

“Our chairperson, Declan Walsh, has served the organisation with dedication and vision, bringing about significant developments and growth during his tenure. They have been instrumental in leading key initiatives and fostering a culture of innovation and integrity.

“Similarly, our vice-chairperson Pat Heneghan, our secretary, Norman Lenihan, have been pivotal in streamlining operations and enhancing our strategic partnerships. Their contributions have been invaluable in achieving our organisational goals and maintaining our commitment to excellence.

“Our children’s officer, Michelle Hughes Walsh, who also served as P.R.O in years prior to this season, has been a passionate advocate for the welfare of children within our County.

“Their tireless efforts have made a lasting impact and their absence will be felt deeply.

“We are grateful for the years of service and dedication these individuals have provided. Their leadership has set a strong foundation for the future, and we are committed to continuing the work they have started.”
