Former sarpanch dies after SUV attack over road encroachment

Ajmer: Villagers from Dumara Wednesday protested outside JLN Hospital, demanding the arrest of the accused after former sarpanch Govind Ram Gujjar died during treatment.Police said Govind Ram was hit by an SUV in Dumara village last week while he was walking home. He had been protesting an encroachment on a village road. He was badly injured in the attack and was taken to JLN Hospital.After his death, villagers refused to accept his body and continued their demand for arrests.Mangliyawas Police Station registered the case, arrested the main accused, Parmeshwar Gujjar of Dumara village, and seized the vehicle used to hit the victim. Police said four other accomplices had already been arrested. A police official said, “just after the incident, police registered the FIR and started an investigation, and now all the accused are arrested.”Gujjar leaders also reached the protest site and demanded that police check encroachments in villages. Sources said Govind Ram was a community leader.
