Ghaziabad: Amid the ongoing cold, a bus stop near the Gurudwara in Indirapuram has become a temporary shelter for the city’s vulnerable, including many specially-abled people. As temperatures plunged over the last few days, several people sought refuge at the open bus stop, which lacks essential amenities like basic hygiene and clean drinking water.Residents and local activists have raised concerns over the conditions at the makeshift shelter and highlighted the need for basic facilities such as blankets, drinking water and sanitation to ensure the safety and well-being of those using the space to escape the harsh weather conditions. They also demanded the relocation of the people to a proper night shelter to safeguard them from the cold.“Dignity and safety for those in need should be prioritised. We call on the local authorities to address the welfare of these vulnerable citizens,” said Surendra Kumar, a resident of Indirapuram.“We cannot turn a blind eye to the plight of these individuals, and municipal authorities must take action to create a safe space for those who are struggling to find shelter from the cold,” another resident, Anshu Singh, said. Social activist Sunil Vaidya highlighted for more comprehensive solutions to provide long-term support to people in need.As the cold night rolls in, many are watching closely, hoping for prompt action to ensure that no one must endure alone.A response from GMC to take necessary steps to address the situation and allocate resources to assist those seeking refuge is awaited on the matter.
