Food safety dept in Bhilwara seizes adulterated spices

Bhilwara: The food safety department seized more than 2,300 kg of red chilli powder and 1,710 kg of whole coriander spice from Star Light Agro Limited on Chittorgarh Road in Bhilwara district Monday. About 400 kg of dates were destroyed on the spot, as part of the raid operations ahead of the Holi festival.Bhilwara chief medical and health officer (CMHO) Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma said the department is strictly monitoring those who are risking public health during the festival season. The food department team took samples of the seized material and sent them to Ajmer for testing. Further legal action would be taken as per rules after the test reports are out, the official said. The CMHO has appealed to the public to check the quality and packaging while purchasing food items and immediately inform the department if they find anything suspicious. He said the public could share information on the office telephone number 01482-232643 if there was any suspicion of adulteration in food items in the district.
