TOI had earlier reported that three double-decker viaducts are being constructed in the city by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with Delhi govt. Vehicles will run on the lower deck while the metro train will run on the upper deck. The 1.4km-long double-decker viaduct from Bhajanpura to Yamuna Vihar will transform the landscape of northeast Delhi while traversing densely populated neighbourhoods. It is part of the 12.3km-long Maujpur-Majlis Park corridor, which will be an extension of the Pink Line. “Work on the Maujpur to Majlis Park corridor has been completed. Trial runs are in progress, and the inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is also done,” said a DMRC official. “Construction of the ramp for the road section of the double-decker viaduct, which was pending, is now being taken up since tree-cutting permission in that area was just received and will be completed this year itself,” said the official.TOI had reported that once the Maujpur to Majlis Park corridor becomes operational, the Pink Line will become the first in the DMRC network to form a circular route. The second 2.2km-long double-decker viaduct between Azadpur and Ashok Vihar stations is coming on the Janakpuri West and RK Ashram Marg corridor, an extension of the Magenta Line.“Major work is being taken up in the ramp section, in which foundation works are in progress. Further erection of girders is also in progress in the section of the independent flyover. This will also be ready this year itself,” said the official. However, the entire 29.3km RK Ashram-Janakpuri West corridor will open phase-wise in the next financial year.Among the three double-decker viaducts, the 2.4km-long viaduct between Sangam Vihar and Ambedkar Nagar metro stations will be the longest. It will be part of the 23.6km-long Tughlakabad to Aerocity corridor, the new Golden Line. “Integrated metro piers are under construction. Spans for the viaduct are also under construction,” said the official. As part of DMRC’s Phase IV expansion, six new corridors with a total length of 112.4km and 94 new stations were planned. It includes three priority corridors, which boast one double-decker viaduct each.Construction work on the fourth and smallest corridor, the 8.3km-long Saket G Block–Lajpat Nagar corridor, an extension of the new Golden Line, began on Dec 8. Delhi Metro will run India’s first three-coach train corridor on this corridor to cater specifically to short-distance urban travel. It will serve as a vital link in south Delhi. The construction of the two remaining corridors — Inderlok to Indraprastha (extension of Green Line) and Rithala–Narela–Kundli (extension of Red Line) — will start this year. The Union Cabinet recently approved three additional corridors as part of the VA expansion — RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, and Aerocity to Terminal 1.
