Noida: Residents of LIG flats in Sector 99 have complained of clogged sewers and dirty, foul-smelling water supply, which they claimed was mixed with sewer lines for several days. On Tuesday, they wrote to chief minister Yogi Adityanath, warning of potential health hazards.Home to around 3,000 residents, the sector has 608 units across 38 blocks, each comprising 16 flats per block. Over a dozen of these blocks have been facing clogged sewers, with dirty, sewer-mixed water in the supply both morning and evening, residents said.Narottam Sharma, RWA president of the sector, wrote in a letter to the chief minister that homes in blocks 1, 21, 33, 38 and others, experienced direct contamination that rendered their water supply unsafe for consumption. “Residents reported cloudy, foul-smelling water, which poses significant health risks, including typhoid, diarrhoea, and hepatitis,” Sharma said.According to Sharma, old and damaged sewer lines, combined with inadequate connections to the main water supply, are the root cause for the contamination. “Despite numerous complaints to the Noida Authority, only temporary fixes were executed, leaving the root problems unaddressed and the well-being of residents in jeopardy,” he said.Residents fear that they may face an impending health crisis if their situation remains unresolved. The RWA formally requested that the chief minister instruct the Noida Authority to conduct a thorough technical inspection of the sewer and water systems in the area, replace outdated infrastructure and ensure a secure connection to the main water supply.”Our hopes are now pinned on the CM’s intervention, which will lead to a permanent resolution, safeguarding health and restoring confidence in the water supply,” said Sharma. When asked about the matter, officials said efforts are underway to address sewer issues in the city, and the sector’s issues would be addressed soon.
