Five setenced to life for murder in Darbhanga

Darbhanga: Additional district and sessions judge (ADJ-3) Suman Kumar Diwakar on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to five people for killing Ram Kripal Chaudhary of Patori-Basant village under Bishanpur police station area in Darbhanga district on Augt 8, 1994, over a land dispute. The court also imposed a fine of Rs5 lakh on each of the convicts. In case of non-payment, they will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.The convicted persons are Mowin Hasmi, Anjar Hasmi alias Anjar Hussain, Ambar Imam Hasmi, Kaushar Imam Hasmi and Raja Hasmi. All five were held guilty under Sections 302, 307 and 149 of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act by the court on Jan 5 and were sent to judicial custody. The punishment was announced on Saturday.

The court also awarded them 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs5 lakh each under IPC Section 307/149 in another case. APP Renu Jha, who conducted the prosecution, said all sentences will run concurrently.
