Silchar: At least 13 houses were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Subhash Nagar in Maibang under Dima Hasao district on Tuesday, officials said.Fire tenders from the Maibang sub-division were rushed to the spot, but firefighters faced considerable difficulty in bringing the blaze under control due to its intensity. No casualties have been reported so far, though several families were rendered homeless. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Officials said a damage assessment is underway and an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident. Preliminary estimates suggest that 13 houses were completely destroyed, affecting around 15 families.The chairman and vice chairman of the Maibang Municipal Board visited the affected locality and interacted with the affected families. As immediate relief, essential items were distributed. HELP Society, along with the 26 Assam Rifles, distributed relief materials.
