Fire breaks out at Vadapalani mall in Chennai

Chennai: A fire broke out at a shopping mall on Arcot Road in Vadapalani on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred in the kitchen of a fast-food outlet, on the first floor of the mall, which caused panic in the area. No injuries were reported. The employees in the restuarant’s kitchen had heated oil on a stove, when there was a loud explosion and fire erupted. The restaurant and surrounding areas were engulfed in flames. Mall security guards and shop employees safely evacuated the public and alerted the fire brigade.

Fire personnel from Koyambedu and JJ Nagar rushed to the spot and began firefighting operations. By then, the fire spread to some areas on the ground floor. Firefighters brought the blaze under control and spent hours clearing smoke from the mall.Vadapalani police registered a case and are investigating the incident. Traffic in the area was disrupted due to the fire accident.
