Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against a 68-year-old man for allegedly sexually harassing a female commuter on a local train at Mulund on Tuesday. The 30-year-old woman, in her police complaint, said that the man was seated in the disabled coach, adjacent to the ladies compartment, and was masturbating. Police have served a notice to the accused, who is speech and hearing challenged.On Tuesday evening, the woman was headed home from work and boarded a Thane-bound slow local from Dadar station. Seated in the ladies compartment, she was checking her phone. When the train reached Mulund, she put her phone away and looked around her. She noticed the accused seated in the adjacent disabled compartment, masturbating. Taken aback, the woman clicked a photograph of the accused as evidence. She got off the train at Thane station and complained to two male co-travellers. As she looked for police personnel on the station, the accused alighted from the disabled coach and left.
The woman lodged a complaint with Thane Government Railway Police (GRP), and the case was transferred to Kurla GRP as Mulund station lies in their jurisdiction. Police personnel scanned CCTV footage from stations between Dadar and Thane. Early on Thursday, they spotted the accused in the disabled coach of a CSMT-bound slow local. He was offloaded from the train at Bhandup station. They verified his identity with that of the photograph clicked by the complainant and brought him to Kurla GRP chowky.
