FIR filed over FB post against Maya

Lucknow: The Krishna Nagar police in Lucknow on Wednesday registered an FIR against a woman for allegedly posting objectionable and derogatory content against former Uttar Pradesh chief minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) national President Mayawati on Facebook.According to police records, the case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 — including Sections 352 and 353(1)(c) — along with Section 66 of the Information Technology (amendment) Act, 2008.

The complaint was filed by Gangaram Verma, Cantt Assembly president of the BSP and resident of Garhi Kanaura, Lucknow. In his written complaint, Verma stated that on Feb 9, 2026, at around 4 pm, he attended a party meeting at Damodar Nagar under Krishna Nagar police station when he came across a Facebook post from an account named ‘Shreya Yadav’, purportedly based in Lucknow.The complainant alleged that the post contained highly objectionable and socially offensive language against Mayawati, which hurt the sentiments of party workers present at the meeting and triggered strong resentment.The incident reportedly occurred within the Azad Nagar beat area, about 3 km north-east of the police station.Police identified the accused as the operator of the Facebook ID ‘Shreya Yadav’, with an address mentioned in Krishna Nagar, Lucknow (south zone, commissionerate Lucknow). No other accused were named in the case.Officials said the matter is under investigation and appropriate legal action will be taken after examining digital evidence, including screenshots attached to the complaint.
