Panaji: After notices were issued and hearings were held, the official confirmation of a voter’s name in the electoral roll will be known after the final roll is published on Feb 21, said chief electoral officer (CEO) Sanjay Goel.Over 2.2 lakh notices were issued to unmapped persons in the 2002 special intensive revision (SIR), and in cases of logical discrepancies, and all hearings have concluded. “A reflection of one’s name in the final roll will be official confirmation,” Goel said.Voters can file an appeal with the district electoral officer within 30 days of publication, and another 30 days to appeal to the CEO if a name is not reflected in the rolls.Last week, the Election Commission of India extended the date of final publication of the electoral roll to Feb 21 for the SIR, with Jan 1, 2026, as the qualifying date.During the exercise, more than one lakh voters’ names were deleted. More than 40,000 were found shifted, more than 29,000 were absent and untraceable, another 25,000 were dead, and 2,000 were already enrolled in the electoral rolls. The majority of these were in Vasco, Cortalim, Fatorda, Santa Cruz, and Taleigao.
