Lucknow: To monitor the upcoming Film City project along the Yamuna Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has invited tenders to appoint an engineering agency and chartered accountant firms, a govt official said.
The move indicates that the project has entered its construction phase. The International Film City being developed in Sector-21 and is spread over 1,000 acres. The project is slated for completion by June 2028. The project is an effort by the state to project UP as a major hub for film production and the entertainment industry and strengthen UP’s cultural identity.
The Film City is being developed as an integrated hub for the media and entertainment sector, featuring state-of-the-art film studios, shooting floors, post-production units and a film university. It is directly connected to the Yamuna Expressway and located close to the upcoming Noida International Airport, which is expected to make it easily accessible for filmmakers. “Excellent connectivity is expected to attract major production houses to the state, making it an ideal destination for shooting films and web series. The project is also expected to be a key driver of employment generation,” a spokesperson said. He added that both the construction phase and subsequent activities at the site would create thousands of employment opportunities, including jobs in acting, technical work, camera operations, editing, set design, costume design and related fields. “The govt’s focus is on ensuring that local talent gets employment opportunities within the state itself,” he said. The govt is also planning the Film City project to give fresh momentum to the tourism sector. Plans are underway to develop hotels, convention centres and other entertainment-related facilities around the Film City. This is expected to promote film tourism and increase domestic and international footfall, boosting local businesses, the hospitality industry and the service sector.
