FIDE-rated open rapid chess tourney at IIT-K on Feb 7

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), through its Chess Club, in association with SBI General Insurance Company Ltd (SBI GIC), co-powered by SBI, is set to host the institute’s first-ever FIDE-rated Open Rapid Chess tournament on Feb 7. The tournament will be held at the Yoga Hall, New Students’ Activity Centre (SAC), IIT-K. Conducted in a 9-round Swiss System format, the competition will follow a rapid time control of 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move, in accordance with FIDE regulations. The winner will receive Rs 40,000, followed by Rs 25,000 for 2nd place and Rs 15,000 for 3rd place, with cash prizes extending up to the 20th rank.
