Two toll plaza staff arrested for attacking woman lawyer’s family

VARANASI: Following a high-voltage drama that unfolded at Lodhi toll plaza on the Robertsganj-Chopan road in Sonbhadra on Sunday afternoon, the family members of a woman lawyer were thrashed by staff. Robertsganj police arrested 2 accused.Sonbhadra’s CO (city) Randheer Mishra on Monday said that, based on a complaint by Aarti Pandey of Robertsganj, police lodged an FIR under sections 191(2), 109(1), 115(2), 352, 351(3), and 74 BNS. 2 accused, identified as Ramji Tiwari of Hamirpur and Sarvesh Yadav of Ambedkar Nagar, were arrested. Further investigation is in progress to ascertain the identity of others involved in the attack.The incident occurred when the toll plaza machine could not read the number and FASTag of a vehicle, and many vehicles, including the lawyer’s, standing behind it got stuck. Family members of the lawyer went to the toll plaza window to know the reason for the delay when, following an exchange of heated words, the toll collection staff attacked them.The incident took place when the woman lawyer, Aarti Pandey, along with other family members, stopped in a lane of Lodhi toll plaza while heading to Chopan in their car. As no vehicle in her lane moved forward for several minutes, some of her family members reached near the toll counter to know the reason for it. It is alleged that instead of giving a satisfactory reply, the toll booth staff and his colleagues misbehaved with them, after which heated arguments took place between them.After that, the toll plaza staff assaulted the family members of the lawyer. She kept making a video of the incident on her mobile. On seeing it, passengers in other vehicles came forward in her support.
