Patna: A 58-year-old farmer was shot dead while sleeping at his home in Lakhminia Sonar Tola under Balia police station area of Begusarai district on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Krishnandan Yadav (58), a resident of Lakhminia Sonar Tola.According to police, Yadav was asleep around 11.30pm when someone called out to him. As soon as he got up, an unidentified assailant shot him in the chest and fled. Hearing him fall, his wife raised an alarm, prompting neighbours to rush to the spot. He was taken to Sadar hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.Police reached the village on Monday morning after being alerted by locals and inspected the crime spot. “The body was handed over to the family after postmortem at Sadar hospital. One empty cartridge was recovered from the spot. Bike tyre marks were also found near the house, indicating the killer may have arrived on a motorcycle. The police team is probing all possible angles,” the DSP said.The victim’s son, Shivam Kumar, said his father was a farmer and had no enmity with anyone.
