An FIR was registered against 29 named accused and 10 unidentified persons on charges including attempt to murder, abduction and rioting.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father, Megh Singh, the incident occurred around 10am on Jan 21 when Singh, his son Ashok and nephew Girvar were taking a tractor loaded with sugarcane from their fields in Maholi village to the Palwal sugar mill. When they reached Rainibell Road, more than 30 armed men stopped them. When Singh and Girvar tried to intervene, the attackers allegedly fired shots, forcing them to retreat. Ashok was tied to the side seat of the tractor, which was then driven towards the Yamuna, and pushed into the river. The accused fled after villagers arrived at the spot and alerted the police.Police and emergency teams reached the site soon after and used a crane to pull the tractor out of the river. Ashok was rescued and taken for medical treatment. Doctors said he suffered at least seven serious injuries. The family also alleged that gold jewellery and Rs 8,000 in cash were taken, a claim police said is being verified.Preliminary investigation suggests the incident was linked to an old land dispute between the two sides.
