Hyderabad: On the pretext of helping a childless woman, a conman posing as a Unani doctor committed theft at her residence in Pochampally in Yadadri-Bhongir district on Monday.Police said the accused, who is yet to be identified, went to several houses in Gandhi Nagar in Pochampally, enquiring whether there were any childless couples in the area. Claiming to be a Unani doctor, he initially approached a woman who refused to take treatment from him but, at his request, shared information about another childless couple living nearby. The accused then approached the complainant, claiming that he had a medicine in lotion form which, if applied by the couple, would help the woman conceive. He asked the couple to separately go into the washroom and bathe after applying the lotion. He told her to leave her valuables outside before entering the washroom. While her husband was in another room, the accused seized the opportunity, stole a 3.5-tola gold chain, and fled the spot. Realising they had been conned, the victims approached the police and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the accused.
