Hyderabad: Acting on the directions of a local court, Jubilee Hills police on Wednesday registered a case against five persons, including film director Dharma Teja’s son Amitov Teja, for allegedly coercing and extorting a person dealing in stocks for him.The complainant, K Praneeth, 35, of Moti Nagar, moved a petition before the XVII additional chief metropolitan magistrate a few months ago, levelling multiple allegations against the accused.Praneeth said he became acquainted with businessman Amitov Teja in April 2025 while processing a credit card application. Teja allegedly asked Praneeth to operate the demat account of his mother, Srivalli Teja, promising to share one-time passwords remotely. “Trading on Teja’s instructions caused a loss of about 11 lakh. After the loss, though I was reluctant, Teja requested me to conduct further trading and shared the OTP to recover the losses,” the complainant alleged.Praneeth also claimed that on May 24, 2025, Teja’s associates Ch Manikumar, Ch Ramnath Reddy and A Laxmikanth Reddy, forcibly took him to Teja’s residence, compelled him to sign blank cheques, promissory notes and stamp papers, and threatened him. Praneeth also alleged that his wife was later made to sign papers purportedly selling their flat, and the couple was also warned their daughter would be harmed if they resisted.A case was booked against Amitov Teja, Srivalli, Manikumar, Ramnath and Laxmikanth under Sections 111, 125, 127(1), 130, 135, 136, 308, 322, 324(1), 335 and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 175(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.Earlier, on the directions of the court, Jubilee Hills police had booked a case on Jan 12 against Praneeth and his wife Anusha on the complaint of Amitov Teja for cheating him of 72 lakh by fabricating trading profits and then reneging on a compensation deal involving a flat. Both the cases were currently under investigation.
