Patna: Artificial intelligence is rapidly emerging as the next essential need for modern society and will soon join roti, kapda, makaan and the cellphone as a basic requirement, NIT Kurukshetra director B V Ramana Reddy said on Wednesday while inaugurating an international AI conference at the Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), Gaya.Jointly sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the conference was organised by the School of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (SMSC) of CUSB.
Reddy said that with the rapid evolution of technology, continuous efforts are being made to make human life more fascinating and comfortable while contributing to national development in terms of gross domestic product (GDP). He emphasised the ethical use of artificial intelligence, stressing that technological advancement must be guided by responsibility, transparency, and societal well-being.Highlighting the importance of interdisciplinary studies, Reddy noted that meaningful innovation emerges at the intersection of multiple domains. Drawing on his background in electronics and information and communication technology (ICT), he described ICT as an umbrella field covering artificial intelligence, mathematical sciences, statistics, and data science.In his presidential address, CUSB vice-chancellor Kameshwar Nath Singh said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 places strong emphasis on a multi-disciplinary approach to research, which can significantly contribute to making India a developed nation. He added that India’s progress depends on the synergy between technological innovation and skilled human resources.Among those who addressed the conference were S S Singh from Mizoram University; Anoop Kumar from Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow; Gauri Shankar from the Central University of Punjab; Swapnil Srivastava from Ewing Christian College, Prayagraj; and Kumar Satya from VIT Vellore.At the outset, conference chairman Jay Prakash Singh welcomed the participants. Co-convener Jai Nath Yadav proposed the vote of thanks.
