Chennai: AIADMk general secertary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday hit out at chief minister M K Stalin for his remark that the previous AIADMK govt introduced the 7.5% horizontal reservation for govt school students in medical admissions due to pressure from the DMK.EPS said Stalin’s “false narrative” was an attempt to claim credit for the AIADMK govt’s welfare schemes.

In a statement, EPS said the policy was “conceptualised and implemented” by the AIADMK regime under his leadership to fulfil the long-standing aspiration of govt school students to enter medical colleges. The horizontal quota, he said, was “borne out of my own thinking” and executed through constitutional provisions.”Nutritious meal scheme means puratchi thalaivar (MGR), cradle baby scheme means puratchi thalaivi Amma, and 7.5% horizontal reservation means the govt headed by me,” he said.

He alleged the CM was repeatedly claiming credit for AIADMK schemes by “peddling lies every single day.” This was due to fear of defeat in the elections, EPS said.Meanwhile, the AIADMK announced a series of protests on state-level and hyper-local issues to step up pressure on the ruling DMK and highlight what it calls the govt’s failure in ensuring basic amenities and fulfilling its poll assurances.

The party will stage a protest in Manamadurai municipality on February 11 over the lack of civic facilities, followed by a state-wide agitation on February 13 against the non-implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme. The party also announced that EPS would resume the ‘Makkalai Kappon, Thamilagathai Meetpom’ election campaign on February 15 at Bhavanisagar in Erode district.
