Guwahati: The full commission of the Election Commission of India (ECI) will visit the state on Feb 17 and 18 to review the poll preparation, before taking a decision on election dates.Chief electoral officer Anurag Goel said, “After their visit, the ECI will announce the election dates. However, it cannot be said at this moment when they will announce (the dates).”
Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state govt will request the ECI during its visit to the state to conduct elections before the Bohag bihu, which is celebrated in mid-April.“The full commission will sit with all the political parties, state govt and the officers. We will request the ECI to conduct the polls before the Bohag bihu,” he added.Sources said the ECI may announce the poll dates by the end of Feb or in the first week of March.
