In a proactive move to enhance disaster readiness, Patna has kicked off a two-week safety campaign spearheaded by District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M. Slated to run until January 28, the initiative utilizes e-rickshaws, engaging street performances, and hands-on mock drills by SDRF and NDRF to inform the community.

Patna: Patna DM Thiyagarajan S M on Thursday launched the Earthquake Safety Fortnight drive on the collectorate campus. The campaign, which will continue till Jan 28, is being organised by the Bihar State Disaster Management Authority and the disaster management department to enhance public awareness and preparedness for earthquakes.As part of the initiative, the administration is using e-rickshaw-mounted publicity vehicles, street plays, and the distribution of pamphlets and banners to spread awareness among residents. In addition, the SDRF and NDRF will conduct mock drills to demonstrate emergency response and rescue operations.

These activities will be held at the district, subdivision and block levels to ensure wide outreach. Several key departments, including education, health and fire services, are participating in the fortnight-long programme to ensure coordinated safety efforts.Officials said the objective of the campaign is to educate citizens about essential precautions and the dos and don’ts during seismic events, with a focus on building community resilience. Residents have been urged to actively participate in the programmes to help create a disaster-ready society.
