Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced that the government will soon launch a new program for families — Family ID Card. He announced this in Uttar Pradesh Assembly during the debate on the Governor’s address. Under this program, each family will have its own card. This card will be used to provide benefits of the central and state government welfare schemes to those who have so far been deprived of the benefits of these schemes. The focus is mainly on seven schemes.
The state government had initiated the program last year. Families without a ration card and not included in the National Food Security Scheme will have to apply for a Family ID. Those possessing ration cards will have their cards serve as their Family ID.
The Family ID, a 12-digit unique identifier, contains comprehensive family information. This card acts as a central repository of family attributes, facilitating automatic determination of their eligibility for government schemes and the extension of benefits to those who have been overlooked. Various departments, including education, social welfare, and labor, will utilize this database to administer Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) programs.
Using the comprehensive database linked to the Family ID, households lacking employment can be identified, and priority will be given to providing them with potential job opportunities.
Yogi said that the work of this scheme is in progress and so far the details of 6 crore 64 lakh families have been fed. He also announced that one member of each family in the state will be guaranteed employment under this programme.
