NEW DELHI: A routine weekday morning in Dwarka turned deadly when a speeding Scorpio SUV, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, rammed a motorcycle near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Sector 11, killing a 23-year-old man on the spot. The crash has once again raised alarm over underage driving and reckless behaviour on city roads.What happenedPolice received a call at 11.57 am reporting the accident. At the scene, a motorcycle and two cars, including the Scorpio SUV, were found badly damaged. Sahil Dhaneshra (23) was declared dead on the spot, while Ajit Singh, a cab driver, sustained injuries.Preliminary inquiries revealed that the motorcycle and SUV collided head-on while approaching from opposite directions. Following the impact, the SUV lost control and rammed into a subcompact car parked along the roadside.Confusion over ageThe SUV driver initially claimed he was 19, but further investigation after filing of the FIR revealed that he was only 17.Probe findings and police actionThe SUV was being driven by the minor boy, who was accompanied by his sister. He has been apprehended and produced before the Juvenile Justice Board. The vehicle is registered in the name of his father, a transport businessman. An FIR has been filed against the father under Section 199 A of the Motor Vehicles Act, which holds guardians or vehicle owners responsible for offences committed by juveniles.The postmortem revealed multiple injuries:
- Fractured left temporo-parietal bone of the skull
- Clotted blood present in the oral cavity
- Multiple fractured ribs on the left side of the chest
- Cause of death: Haemorrhagic shock
Family allegationsSahil’s mother alleged that the SUV had multiple speeding challans and claimed the minor boy was making reels with his sister while driving at the time of the accident.Underage driving cases in Delhi show a worrying trend:
