Margao: The Nuvem gram sabha, held on Sunday, passed a resolution demanding that the directorate of settlement and land records (DSLR) drop its proposed digital 3D land survey of the village.Nuvem is among several villages surrounding Margao included in central govt’s Naksha scheme, which has already drawn sharp opposition from neighbouring villages of Navelim and Davorlim over the past weeks. The resolution, moved by Jose Roque Andrade, raised a string of concerns. Villagers questioned why Nuvem alone was singled out from the broader constituency, whether the survey would lead to the merger of villages into Margao municipality, and whether it was linked to govt’s plans under the Escheats Act, 2024, to appropriate vacant or inherited land.Members demanded clarity on the fate of disputed lands, the treatment of farmhouses in the No Development Zone, and who would ultimately benefit from the exercise. The gram sabha resolved that any future survey, if required, should cover the entire Nuvem constituency rather than the village in isolation. The meeting also saw a heated exchange over a mega project approved in the Kirbhat area. Residents challenged the sarpanch on how the project was approved when the access road measured only 3.5m, contrary to the 6m width shown in TCP documents.Villagers questioned whether the panchayat carried out any ground inspection before issuing approval. A resolution was passed to disallow any further mega projects in the area, with the sarpanch, Freda D’Sa, pledging to stand with the villagers on the issue.Other matters raised included roadside vendor encroachments causing traffic hazards along village roads, the carrying capacity of Nuvem, and a follow-up on the proposed de-notification of the old NH17 stretch at Nuvem from Fr Agnel College to Honda showroom.
