Police said that the CMS company had deployed four people — two cash custodians, a guard and a driver — to replenish cash at different ATMs. “When the staff arrived at an Axis Bank ATM centre in Gopanpalli, the cash custodians went inside. The guard left the spot to attend nature’s call. Seizing the opportunity, the driver, Ajith alias Shiva, escaped with the cash by speeding away in the transport vehicle,” said Gachibowli inspector Balraj. When the cash custodians, Rama Krishna and Abdul Malik, came out, they found that the vehicle was missing. “The driver and the guard, Perumal, work for Sangam Securities Limited, a private security agency hired by the cash management company. From Gopanpalli, Ajith drove to Tellapur, where he abandoned the vehicle,” the police said. Ajith had worked at Sangam Securities for the last six months. After abandoning the vehicle, the accused fled with the cash bags. “How he escaped from Tellapur is still being investigated,” the police said.Of the stolen cash, Rs 47 lakh belonged to various cash deposits made by customers. The remaining cash had been provided by CMS for replenishing the ATMs. Police are reviewing CCTV footage to gain insight into Ajith’s movements. A case was registered after a complaint was received from Rama Krishna, cash custodian.
