Silchar: A dumper driver from Assam’s Cachar district was burnt alive after his vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage power line in Meghalaya’s Ratacherra, police said.The deceased was identified as Sani Roy (28), a resident of Badarpur. According to sources, Roy had taken the dumper to a servicing centre in Ratacherra for washing on Tuesday. While cleaning the vehicle, he raised the dumper body using its hydraulic system to unload and wash it properly.As the dumper body was lifted, it accidentally touched an overhead high-voltage electric line. The moment the metal structure came in contact with the live wire, sparks flew and a fire broke out. Within seconds, flames engulfed the vehicle, trapping the driver inside the cabin.Personnel from the Meghalaya Police rushed to the spot soon after the incident. The charred body was recovered and sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination.The incident has left the victim’s family and residents of Badarpur in deep shock and mourning.
