DRI arrests Nigerian woman with 1.8kg amphetamine on private bus

Jaipur: Unearthing a new modus operandi adopted by drug traffickers, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Jaipur, arrested a Nigerian-origin woman travelling from Delhi to Bengaluru by bus via Jaipur with nearly 1.8 kg of amphetamine, a banned psychotropic drug.DRI officers said the quantity of the drug the woman was carrying was worth around Rs 1.5 crore. They said the woman deliberately avoided air and rail travel, which are subject to stricter checks, and instead boarded a private bus operating from Delhi to Bengaluru. “She chose a private bus service for the route, something people usually do not prefer for such long inter-city travel. Acting on specific intelligence, we intercepted her after she reached Jaipur and recovered the narcotics,” said an officer, on condition of anonymity. The seized amphetamine, a banned psychotropic drug under NDPS Act, was allegedly being transported for distribution in southern India. “The woman was arrested and produced in court after registering a case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The court remanded her to judicial custody,” the officer said.
