Ahmedabad: A 29-year-old doctor has filed a domestic violence complaint with Vejalpur police against her husband, a Class-I officer in the roads and buildings department in Gandhinagar. The doctor’s complaint also names her husband’s family members, including his father, who serves in the city police force.The complainant, who works at an urban health centre, alleged sustained mental and physical harassment since her marriage in 2023. In her statement recorded on Tuesday, she named her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law as the accused persons.According to the FIR, disputes began months into the marriage over personal issues and alleged inappropriate chats found on her husband’s phone. The complainant further alleged that her husband told her he was travelling to Saurashtra for bridge inspection training on Jan 29. Later, she claimed to find evidence suggesting he travelled abroad. When she confronted her in-laws and visited his Gandhinagar office, she learnt that he was on a 15-day leave and had gone to Pattaya in Thailand.She alleged that despite medical reports stating that her husband was not capable of fathering a child, she was repeatedly pressured by her in-laws to undergo IVF procedures from Feb 2024. She claimed she underwent the procedure three times despite severe physical discomfort but faced taunts for not conceiving.Moreover, she alleged that on Feb 5, after returning home from duty, she was assaulted by her husband and in-laws. In the complaint, she stated that her mother-in-law pulled her hair, her brother-in-law hit her with a stick, and her husband kicked her. She said she was dragged out of her room and her phone was taken away. She later sought help from a neighbour and contacted her father, following which the 181 Abhayam helpline and police intervened.Vejalpur police have registered a domestic violence case.
