Dibrugarh: The 128th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated across Dibrugarh on Friday with patriotic fervour. The day, observed nationally as ‘Parakram Diwas’ or the Day of Courage, saw citizens and officials gathering to honour the legacy of one of India’s most iconic freedom fighters. The central commemorative event was held at the Netaji Udyan, located on BC Das Road in the Santipara area. Dibrugarh mayor Saikat Patra led the proceedings, joined by a large group of senior citizens and locals. The ceremony began with the traditional garlanding of Netaji’s statue, followed by a floral tribute to mark the occasion.Subhas Chandra Bose, born on Jan 23, 1897, remains a towering figure in the Indian independence movement. His efforts in establishing the Indian National Army (INA) and his diplomatic manoeuvres to form global alliances against British rule during World War II are credited with laying the groundwork for the modern Indian state.Speaking at the event, Patra highlighted the enduring relevance of Netaji’s principles in the contemporary era.“Netaji’s life was a testament to unwavering bravery and selfless service to the motherland. On this Parakram Diwas, we remember his extraordinary leadership and urge the younger generation to draw inspiration from his vision of a united and strong India,” Patra said.Senior citizens present at the park also shared their reflections, noting that the foundation of India’s sovereignty was built on the sacrifices of leaders like Bose.Beyond the main event at Netaji Udyan, several local organisations across the city organised small-scale programmes and discussions to educate students about the historical significance of the Indian National Army and Netaji’s role in the freedom struggle.
