Dhubri: Dhubri District Railway Development and Passengers’ Association demonstrated at the ASTC Garage ground on Station Road, pressing for multiple railway-related demands including a railway overbridge and a railway hospital in Dhubri.During the protest on Sunday, the association demanded the running of a Dhubri–Tinsukia passenger train, construction of a railway overbridge at the Senpara level crossing in Dhubri town, setting up a railway hospital near the Dhubri railway platform, a passengers’ waiting room at Gauripur Railway Junction, and a ticket reservation booking counter at Gauripur railway station.The association also sought introduction of a Dhubri-Guwahati train, making the Rajyarani Express a daily service from Dhubri, starting long-distance trains to Patna, Amritsar and Delhi from Gauripur Junction, and construction of an approach road from the Gauripur railway line to Goushala.President and secretary of the association, Madhab Chandra Paul and Nurul Islam, respectively told TOI that Dhubri railway station is one of the oldest in Assam but many a demands raised before the officials of Alipurduar Railway Division are yet to be fulfilled.“Since we represent the passengers’ interest, their amenities, safety and security have remained our top priority. We are also contemplating to move DRM at Alipurduar and Dhubri districtcCommissioner with a memorandum soon ,” they added.
