A sweeper at a government school was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a Class II student, police said on Tuesday.
According to the girl’s parents, they noticed that she had been behaving oddly for the last few days. When they questioned her, she allegedly admitted that a sweeper from her school did “wrong things” to her.
The girl was subsequently admitted to a hospital on February 13 and the police were informed of the matter. The sexual assault was confirmed after a medical examination was conducted, said police.
Police have registered a case under sections of rape and relevant sections of the POCSO Act against the accused.
During the investigation, police said they found that the accused allegedly committed the crime when the school re-opened after the winter break. He allegedly used to assault the girl in the washroom during school time and threaten to kill her family members to keep her quiet.
