New Delhi: Delhi Police‘s crime branch has dismantled an interstate drug syndicate that allegedly trafficked over 5,000 kg of ganja from Odisha over the past year, using cashew nut boxes and a toy-packing factory as a cover.

Three men have been arrested and over 165 kg of ganja seized.Police said they received a tip-off on Dec 24 about a cannabis consignment expected in Mangol Puri. A trap was laid and around 8:40 pm, police spotted two scooters arriving and shifting three cartons. The riders were apprehended and the cartons were found to contain 47.3 kg of ganja. The accused were identified as Ajeet (41) of Jawala Puri and Sonu (30) of Khichdipur.

A case under NDPS Act was registered. During questioning, Ajeet disclosed that his source was Pappu in Odisha, who had allegedly dispatched seven more consignments.Police later seized 118.4 kg of ganja from a courier company’s Delhi office. “Pappu was identified, traced and arrested from Puri in Odisha,” said DCP (Crime) Pankaj Kumar.Police claimed Pappu concealed ganja inside cashew nut boxes and sent them through courier services after receiving advance payments. Ajeet allegedly avoided taking delivery himself and deputed his labourer Sonu to collect parcels from Mangol Puri, paying him Rs 10,000 per consignment. The contraband was then stored and moved using Ajeet’s toy-packing unit in Nihal Vihar as a front.
