Gorakhpur: Mentioning that environmental pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing the world today, CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday expressed concern over the poor AQI in Delhi. Such conditions, he added, are the result of tampering with nature and neglecting environmental responsibilities.“Only if you protect the environment will the environment protect you. Look at Delhi’s condition, life there has become suffocating. It feels like being in a gas chamber. The AQI is in very poor condition. There is burning in the eyes and difficulty in breathing. Doctors advise the elderly, sick people and children not to go out of their homes,” he said at inaugural ceremonies of the renovated Block Development Officer’s office and the city’s fifth Kalyan Mandapam in Gorakhpur on Saturday. In contrast, he said, Gorakhpur enjoys a clean and healthy atmosphere without any suffocating conditions. “The environment here is absolutely pure,” he said. Highlighting long-term measures, he referred to the proposed forestry university in Campierganj, stating that it would play a significant role in addressing environmental challenges. The institution is expected to help increase forest cover and boost farmers’ incomes through forestry-based initiatives.Air pollution, he noted, not only damages the lungs but gradually affects the entire body. “If there is no pollution, there will be no disease,” he said, stressing the direct link between environmental degradation and public health.
