Delhi court-ordered raid in Jodhpur seizes counterfeit ‘NANDI’ pipes

Jodhpur: Counterfeit pipes sold under the ‘NANDI’ name were seized in Jodhpur during a raid ordered by a Commercial Court in Delhi. The manufacturer of Nandi brand pipes said it received continuous complaints that Anant Mandhana & Ors, based in Jodhpur, were manufacturing and selling fake pipes under the name ‘NANDI’. The packaging, brand name, design, style of writing ‘NANDI’, and overall appearance were found to be almost identical to the company’s registered brand, making it difficult for consumers to distinguish between genuine and counterfeit products.Counsel for the original manufacturer said the preliminary investigation showed “blatant violations of the Trademark Act, 1999 and the Copyright Act, 1957,” and that consumers were being deliberately misled to earn illegal profits.Finding a strong prima facie case in a matter filed before the Delhi Commercial Court, the court appointed a local commissioner and granted permission for search and seizure with police assistance.Acting on the court’s directions, the local commissioner and local police raided shop premises in Jodhpur Wednesday and recovered a large quantity of counterfeit pipes bearing the ‘NANDI’ name. All counterfeit material was seized, sealed, and is under the custody of the court.
