Delhi Budget: Details sought from departments for 2026-27 estimates

New Delhi: Preparations for the Delhi Budget 2026–27 have begun, with the finance department asking all departments to submit their expenditure and revenue estimates. “The departments have been asked to submit proposals for new schemes, programmes and projects to be implemented in the financial year 2026–27 with the finance and planning departments for consideration,” an official said.

The finance department has held multiple review meetings to streamline data collection and monitor progress to prevent delays. Officials said timely preparation is essential to ensure uninterrupted funding and smooth approval and presentation of the budget. Last year’s Delhi Budget for 2025–26, presented on March 25 by chief minister Rekha Gupta, had an outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore — a 31.5% rise from the 2024–25 estimate of Rs 76,000 crore — making it one of the largest budgets in the capital’s history. The upcoming budget is expected to outline the govt’s achievements over the past year and detail plans for growth, welfare schemes, infrastructure and fiscal priorities. The date for presenting the 2026–27 budget has not been finalised. “As per the ongoing discussions, it is likely to take place in March,” the official said. This year, the govt is also expected to table the Economic Survey, which was not presented last year. Usually placed a day before the budget, the survey provides key data that guides evidence-based policymaking.
