New Delhi: The city saw dense fog and a seven degree drop in the daytime temperature on Monday, leading to a cold-day-like situation.A rise in daytime temperatures and a drop in minimum temperatures is most likely over the next few days. The India Meteorological Department also expects dense fog at a few places on Tuesday, and moderate fog on Wednesday.
On Monday, the city saw dense fog for around six hours, with over 300 flights delayed. No flights were cancelled or diverted. “Safdarjung reported the lowest visibility of 100 m in dense fog from 03:30am to 04:30am and 07:30 to 08:30am, and Palam reported the lowest visibility of 100 m from 2 to 04:30am and 8 to 08:30am,” stated IMD.At the base station Safdarjung, the maximum temperature was recorded at 17.5 degree Celsius, 5 notches below normal, compared to 24.6 degree Celsius a day earlier. The minimum temperature was recorded at 10.4 degree Celsius, 2 notches above normal, against 12.1 degree Celsius a day earlier.The maximum and minimum temperature on Tuesday is expected to hover around 19–21 degree Celsius and 7–9 degree Celsius, respectively.As per IITM’s early warning system, the daytime temperature will remain below normal on Tuesday as well.Cold north-westerly winds are blowing again, with the AQI dipping to moderate for a few hours before deteriorating to poor again.The air quality index (AQI), on a scale of 0 to 400, at 4 pm was 210, against 265 a day earlier — both poor.
