Bengaluru: Facing mounting pressure over waste management, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar has appealed to farmers, landowners, and developers to offer at least 100 acres of land within a 40-km radius of Bengaluru, adjacent to a hillock, for the establishment of a new landfill facility.“We are willing to purchase the land outright and pay in cash. No TDR will be offered,” Shivakumar said, adding that compensation will be provided in accordance with the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. He suggested land parcels along Kolar, Nelamangala, Kanakapura, Magadi, and Tumakuru Road — especially near hilly and forested areas — as these locations may have a relatively lower environmental impact.
He assured that, with the consent of landowners, the govt would develop approach roads suitable for tractors and compactors. “Both farmers and developers can offer land. Those interested can approach the GBA, which will process the proposals. A GBA meeting will be convened soon,” he added.
