Days balmy, but nights still come with nip in the air

Ludhiana: After several days, Ludhiana recorded a night temperature below 10 degrees Celsius on Monday, widening the diurnal temperature range to around 20 degrees Celsius. The diurnal range refers to the difference between day and night temperatures.The city remained sunny for most of Monday, leading to a rise in maximum temperature, which settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius — 4.6 degrees Celsius above normal but 0.2 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day. Meanwhile, minimum temperature was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius, which is normal for the season but 3 degrees Celsius lower than a day earlier.With this, the diurnal temperature range reached 18.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, significantly higher than the 15.4 degrees Celsius recorded on the previous day.Fog was reported in the morning, with visibility at 800 metres at 8.30am. As the day progressed, haze prevailed across the city. Visibility improved to 2,000 metres at 11.30am, and later to 4,000 metres each at 2.30pm and 5.30pm.According to the Met department, Ludhiana’s forecast for the next two days indicates “partly cloudy sky,” followed by “mainly clear sky” for the next four days, up to Feb 22. The department’s website suggests that maximum temperature may rise to 28 degrees Celsius by Friday and remain at that level for the next two days. Night temperature is expected to rise to 11 degrees Celsius by Wednesday, fall to 9 degrees Celsius by Friday, and remain stable for the next two days.Residents have begun feeling the sharp contrast between day and night conditions. Gautam Kumar, a city resident, said the weather has become unpredictable, and one needs to be careful while choosing clothes due to the large temperature difference. He added that he enjoys basking in the sun during warm winter days.Another resident, Rupinder Kaur, said she makes sure her son wears proper warm clothes in the evenings when he goes out to play in the park.
