Cybercons dupe man of Rs9.6L in Kanpur

Kanpur: A man, living in the Kakadeo police station area, was defrauded of Rs 9.68 lakh by cyber fraudsters who promised to provide a customer service centre licence. Police registered a report against a woman and a youth in connection with the fraud.Gyanendra Singh, resident of Vijay Nagar, told police that on December 6, 2024, he had received a WhatsApp call from a woman named Madhu Sharma who lured him with the promise of providing a Customer Service Point (CSP) licence.Gyanendra said that she sent him QR codes and made him pay more than Rs 3 lakh in different instalments. Money was demanded in APS Payout and DMT Wallet, and a total of Rs 9.68 lakh was transferred. After realising the fraud, he filed a report on the online cyber portal in January 2025 and complained to the police.Inspector Kakadeo police station Rajesh Kumar Sharma said that based on the victim’s complaint, a report was registered against Madhu Sharma and Suraj under the IT Act, and help was being sought from the cyber cell to zero in on the culprits.
